Tart cherries are one of the few whole foods that naturally contain melatonin precursors and tryptophan, both of which are associated with sleep quality when included as part of a consistent evening routine. Chamomile has a long history of traditional use as a calming botanical. This drink is not a treatment for insomnia or any sleep condition — it is a warm, mindful ritual to complement good sleep habits.

Ingredients

  • 100 ml pure tart cherry juice (unsweetened)
  • 1 chamomile tea bag (or 1 tsp loose dried chamomile flowers)
  • 150 ml freshly boiled water
  • 1 tsp raw honey (optional)
  • 1 small strip of orange peel (optional — for flavour)

Method

  1. 1Brew the chamomile tea bag in 150 ml of hot water (around 90°C) for 4–5 minutes. Cover the cup while steeping.
  2. 2Remove the tea bag and allow to cool for 2 minutes.
  3. 3Stir in the tart cherry juice and honey if using.
  4. 4Add a strip of orange peel for aroma, if desired.
  5. 5Drink about 30 minutes before you plan to wind down for the evening.
